Even though she grew up playing football, shooting hoops and running races against all the boys in her neighborhood, U.S. 800-meter champion Alysia Montano never wanted to be thought of as one of them.
As a result, she started wearing a flower behind her right ear to remind the boys they were getting beat by a girl.
“The flower to me means strength with femininity. I think that a lot of people say things like you run like a girl. That doesn’t mean you have to run soft or you have to run dainty. It means that you’re strong.”
blaqueviolet asked: 18? lol you seem like you could be anywhere from 17-21
interesting. not giving it away yet :P
"Immature people falling in love destroy each other’s freedom, create a bondage, make a prison. Mature persons in love help each other to be free; they help each other to destroy all sorts of bondages. And when love flows with freedom there is beauty. When love flows with dependence there is ugliness.
A mature person does not fall in love, he or she rises in love. Only immature people fall; they stumble and fall down in love. Somehow they were managing and standing. Now they cannot manage and they cannot stand. They were always ready to fall on the ground and to creep. They don’t have the backbone, the spine; they don’t have the integrity to stand alone.
A mature person has the integrity to stand alone. And when a mature person gives love, he or she gives without any strings attached to it. When two mature persons are in love, one of the great paradoxes of life happens, one of the most beautiful phenomena: they are together and yet tremendously alone. They are together so much that they are almost one. Two mature persons in love help each other to become more free. There is no politics involved, no diplomacy, no effort to dominate. Only freedom and love."

Three times a week, Real Bronx Tours takes riders — mainly white Europeans and Australians — on a trip that includes stops at food-pantry lines and a “pickpocket” park.
Last week, on the first stop of the $45 tour, guide Lynn Battaglia, from Pittsburgh, pointed out a housing project. She then mocked the Grand Concourse, modeled after a Parisian boulevard.
“Do you feel like we’re on the Champs-Elysées?” she teased a couple from Paris.
As the bus idled across from historic St. Ann’s Episcopalian Church, Battaglia launched into a description of the crime, poverty and violence that plagued the South Bronx during the 1970s recession.
…
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz slammed the guide as “the biggest fool on the planet.”
“They should tell people about The Bronx that we all know, and that’s The Bronx that’s had the lowest crime rate since 1963 last year,” he said.
“To have foreigners come and gawk at a long line of people who are less fortunate than they are and to make money off of that and to view them as they are some sort of entertainment is pretty disgusting.”

When I was little, I mean really little, like under the age of 9, I really believed in grown ups. not just my parents, all of them. the most heart-breaking thing growing up was not being bullied, or not dating the boys I fancied, or spending more time doing homework than being silly, but it was realising what a let down grown ups are, and wondering how the fuck I was going to cope in the grown up world. Like I literally saw things like this tour happening and felt like I had the world on my shoulders, and didn’t know what to do with it.
The “act your age” game— go to my askbox, anon or not, and tell me what age you think I act, regardless of whether or not you know how old I am. I’d like to be able to average out the responses and see how ‘old’ people think I am.

One day at work this white girl was talking about one of her friends and she was like “yeah she was denied this just because she’s white” and I could actually feel a rant about white people being discriminated against or some such bullshit
and then my Puerto Rican manager (who I adore, she is perfect) interrupted and was like “shut up, that’s not true”
and it made my day
i havent experienced that before and i really want to
i am not needy, i dont NEED a boyfriend or anything, but it would be so nice
to have a warm body next to mine. Not like, dead but still warm lol, I mean alive, an alive to cuddle with whilst I watch the second half of this movieee.

Muhammad Ali on the Vietnam War Draft
The fact that this is STILL relevant should be very telling.
Immortal words…
“If I’m gonna die, I’ll die right here fighting you … You my enemy, not the Viet Cong or Chinese or Japanese … You my opposer when I want freedom, you my opposer when I want justice, you my opposer when I want equality … You want me to go somewhere and fight, but you won’t even stand up for me here at home.”
I.ron.neee. Fighting for world peace and killing American citizens at home. At least that was the last time that happened. Oh wait…
